I write for a living.

I’m fortunate to be able to earn my livelihood through the thing I love most – writing. Through writing, I have managed to pay my bills, my gym membership and support my expenses as a single mother. And in months where there is a glut of demand for my services, then perhaps I can afford that brief getaway at the beach as well. Yay!

My motto in writing is to keep it simple and clear. Good writing isn’t riddled with difficult words, but is easily understood and resonates with the reader. In my early years as a writer, this seemed counter intuitive to me – I wanted to appear smart and sophisticated. But through the years, after a grilling experience with a very demanding boss who believes in the K.I.S.S philosophy, I learnt to alter my impulses and write with clarity. It worked!

So, if I’m not somewhere pretending to be a sociologist studying remote tribes deep in the jungle, or testing my endurance climbing some of the world’s tallest mountains, or performing mommy duties doing school runs, I like to write. Write, read, write. Repeat.

I also earned some street cred that I amassed throughout my career. In 2002, I graduated from University College London with a degree in Economics, and when my professor said, “the world is your oyster”, I literally went out into the world to make my fortune (and then later lost it). I ran a couple of start-ups which garnered media attention, but never quite made it through to sail into the sunset till the end.

But throughout my tumultuous and adventurous career, writing stuck with me. As soon as I turned 40, I decided to make a career out of it. In 2022, I enrolled in a Creative Writing course online and in those intensive 10 weeks, my life completely transformed.
